Drum jam, free play reading & poetry this weekend

Saint Paul’s Chapel at 209 Broadway St. will be screening Dirty Dancing on Fri., July 24 as part of their “neighborhood movie nights” series. Popcorn and drinks will be provided for this free event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Sunset Jam on the Hudson starts at 6:30 p.m. in Wagner Park on July 24 and welcomes New Yorkers to participate in a drumming circle. Learn African, Latin and Caribbean rhythms at this gathering led by master drummers. Instruments will be provided or bring your own.

The Seaport Film and Food festival continues July 24 with a screening of the 2012 Japanese drama film “Capturing Dad” at 7 p.m. at the Front/Row screen at the intersection of Fulton and Water Sts. Complimentary food samples and drinks highlighting Japanese culture will be provided.

Help support the Old Seaport Alliance by attending the Old Seaport Alliance Night Market from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sat., July 25. Located at 207A Front St., the market will include beer, wine and other snacks from local restaurants. The suggested $10 donation will help support programs run by the Old Seaport Alliance and will include a free drink and raffle ticket.

July 25 is also the last day to catch a workshop staged reading of the new play “My Report to the World: The Story of Jan Karski” at the Museum of Jewish Heritage at 36 Battery Pl. Written by Clark Young and Derek Goldman and starring Oscar-nominated actor David Strathairn, the play recounts the largely unknown story of Polish World War II hero Jan Karski. Admission into the event is free but RSVP is required because of limited space. The performance starts at 9:30 p.m.

Lilly O’Brien’s at 18 Murray St. is hosting “Comedy Outliers: A Monthly Stand-Up Comedy Showcase” on July 25 starting at 6:30 p.m. Featuring comedians who have appeared on MTV, Comedy Central and “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” this event is recommended for adults and kids 16 or older. Tickets are $10 at the door or $8 if purchased in advance (brownpapertickets.com).

The Poetry Society of New York is inviting New Yorkers of all ages to come together for a two-day festival celebrating the poetry community in N.Y.C. Starting Sun., July 26, the event will showcase more than 60 poetry organizations and 250 poets on three stages from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Governors Island National Monument. Local artisans will be selling their wares throughout the day and healthy food options will also be available for purchase.
