How time flies — and cigarette prices rise — when you’re serving up delicious fries. Ray a.k.a. Asghar Ghahraman, above in 1992, recently marked the 40th anniversary of running his “candy shop” on Avenue A at Seventh St. He turned 81 on Jan. 1. His hole-in-the-wall store is the go-to spot for tasty snacks that hit the spot. After a night on the town, revelers flock by for freshly made beignets or Belgian fries with the choice of an array of toppings, from cheese to chipotle sauce. Of course, there are always the popular standbys, like chili-cheese hot dogs, egg creams and lime rickeys. In the summer, Ray has the best soft-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt on Avenue A.
