Transit Sam, Week of Feb. 6, 2014, Fashion Week

Thurs., Feb. 6 – Wed., Feb. 12

ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE SUSPENDED WEDNESDAY FOR LINCOLN’S BIRTHDAY; Check 311 for weather-related suspensions

Fashion Week kicks off Thursday! While the runways are located at Lincoln Center, many of the big shows and parties will, of course, be Downtown.  Several events will be held at Spring Studios on Varick St. between Laight and Beach Sts. (right at the Holland Tunnel exit). Expect slowdowns late in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday, around noon Monday, and during the a.m. commute Wednesday.

Taxis bustling models, designers and editors will take to the streets daily through Wednesday. On Friday, shows run 1 p.m. at Mercer St. between Spring and Broome Sts. All day Sunday, shows will run at Greene St. between Prince and Spring Sts. and at Wooster St. between Spring and Broome Sts.

The New Museum (on Bowery at Stanton St.) hosts a show 3 p.m. Monday. Pier 36 on South St. at Montgomery St. hosts a show 4 p.m. Tuesday. On Wednesday, shows run all day at Broadway and Prince, Parlor at Spring St. between Varick and Hudson Sts. hosts a show at 11 a.m., and a studio on Broadway at Worth St. hosts a show at 8 p.m.

So long as the slush sticks around, drive extra carefully if you must drive. Temperatures will hover around freezing through the weekend, so this week’s flurries will get icy. Follow me on Twitter @gridlocksam for updates on alternate side parking status.

On West St./Route 9A, one lane will close in each direction between West Thames and Vesey Sts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Leonard St. will close between Church St. and West Broadway through Wednesday. Church St. will close between Leonard and Worth Sts. for 15-minute intervals between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. through Wednesday.

Nassau St. will close periodically between Ann and Beekman Sts. 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Theater Alley will also close between Ann and Beekman Sts. 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
