ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING IS IN EFFECT ALL WEEK

Triple trouble at the East River this weekend! Closures at the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges and Battery Tunnel mean slow going in and to Lower Manhattan.

All Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close 12:01 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, as well as 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Monday, and Tuesday nights. That means more cars detouring to the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges and onto Canal and Delancey Sts.

One tube of the Hugh L. Carey (Brooklyn Battery) Tunnel will close 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. The remaining tube will carry one lane of traffic in each direction. Expect delays on West St., and on the inbound Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

On the Manhattan Bridge, the Brooklyn-bound south upper roadway will close 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. During the closure, two lanes will be open in either direction. The Williamsburg may see extra traffic on Delancey St.

At MetLife Stadium, the Giants play the Eagles 1 p.m. Sunday. That means slowdowns in the Holland Tunnel as drivers detour south from the Lincoln. Watch for residual backups on Seventh Ave. and Canal St. The return trip hits Manhattan around 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. so don’t expect any relief in the area till the sun sets.

No trains at N, Q, or R stations in Manhattan 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday (the work continues through 5 a.m. Fri., Oct. 4). N trains run in Brooklyn and Queens only and Q trains are rerouted via the D line to and from the 57th St. F station.

Thousands are expected to attend a rally in support of charter schools which will march from Brooklyn’s Cadman Plaza over the Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Expect slowdowns near Park Row, Chambers St., Lafayette St. and Broadway once they reach Manhattan.

The Deepavali Festival will close Water St. between Fulton and Fletcher Sts., John St. between Front and Water Sts., and Front St. between John St. and Maiden Lane 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Leonard St. will close between Hudson and Varick Sts. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, as well as the following weekend, Oct. 12 and 13.

Beginning Monday, Rector St. will be subject to intermittent closures and occasional 24-hour full closures between West and Greenwich Sts. through mid-November.

From the mailbag:

Dear Transit Sam,

Is it legal to use a car cover that hides your license plate?

Joe, New York

Dear Joe,

No, car covers that hide plates and by the way, windshield registration and inspection stickers, are illegal.
