Picked a fight with the wrong guy

This guy fought a cop to try to prevent him from making an arrest — so he ended up in cuffs, too.

Shibu Okechukwu, 26, appeared to be trying to protect a friend on Wed., Nov. 14 at around 3 p.m. when stepping in the middle of the scuffle on Canal Street, between Greene and Mercer Streets, and attempting to stop an arrest in progress. When he was told to leave the area, Okechukwu stood his ground and put up his fists, police said.

As the officers were busy going about their business, Okechukwu lashed out at the officer who was handcuffing the perp, cutting the officer’s finger in the process. Okechukwu’s outburst didn’t last long, as other officers were there to take care of it — and when it was all over, he was charged with assaulting a police officer.

Subway snatchers

Those subway thieves never sleep so long as cell phones and wallets are within reach.

On Sun., Nov. 18, a 35-year-old woman was targeted as the E train she was riding pulled into the Chambers Street Station at around 3 p.m. She told police that, as the train stopped, she was bumped by an unknown black man, who then quickly walked out of the car. Only after the suspect left did the woman realize that her wallet, which had been inside her purse, was gone.

And on Tues., Nov. 13, a 21-year-old woman suffered a similar fate on a 4 train after it pulled into the Wall Street station at around 3 p.m. She told police that an unknown perp snatched her phone and leapt out of the train.

Unattended purse woes

Ladies: It doesn’t matter where you leave your purse in this city. If it is left unattended, it could very well be stolen.

On Sat., Nov. 17, a 31-year-old employee of the M1-5 bar, at 52 Walker St., decided to stow her bag next to a speaker while she tended the taps. When she returned to pick it up later, it was gone, police said. The woman later found that, in addition to all the items she had kept in her purse, she was also robbed of $154 by the perp, who made a purchase using her credit card.

And on Thurs., Nov. 15, a 53-year-old woman visiting from Brazil left her bag hanging off the back of her chair as she was eating at the Pret A Manger at 179 Broadway at around 3 p.m., police said. When she turned around to pay the bill, the bag was gone.
