Sunset Nature Walk Nature interpreter Dave Taft will identify the various insects and birds that come out as the sun sets. An astronomer from the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York will also help visitors use a filtered telescope to view the setting sun. Tour de Parc A bicycle touring event for children ages 3-9. Children make various stops along their route for bike decorating, obstacle courses and tips on bike safety and courtesy. Photography for Children Using a pinhole camera that they create themselves, children in grades 2-5 will learn the art and science of photography while enjoying the beautiful parks, gardens and riverscapes of BPC in a new way. Films for Kids View “The Beginning They Told,” The animals living in the sky work together to bring about the creation of the earth from a tiny piece of mud. “The Legend of Quillwork Girl and Her Seven Star Brothers,” A Cheyenne legend about a skillful girl and her brothers explains how the Big Dipper originated. And “Tales of Wesakechak: Wesakechak and The Medicine,” In a cautionary tale about respecting the power of medicine, Wesakechak has bad experiences when he tries to use the medicine meant for the Birds. October Films for Kids View three special films for kids. “Paulina and the Condor,” an animation about an Aymara girl of Bolivia who leaves her mountain home to live in the city. “Onenhakenra: White Seed,” Mohawks of the Akwesasne Reservation talk about the role of corn in their culture and show the making of traditional corn soup and corn husk dolls. “Raven Tales: How Raven Stole the Sun,” a computer animation brings to life the tale of how Raven brings daylight to the world. Children’s Storybook Reading & Workshop Listen to readings of “Days of the Dead,” by Kathryn Lasky; “Pablo Remembers the Fiesta of the Day of the Dead,” by George Ancona; and “The Day of the Dead: A Mexican-American Celebration” by Diane Hoyt-Goldsmith.
