Robberies arrest
Police arrested a suspect last week in connection with a series of 18 knifepoint robberies in July and August on Downtown, East Village and Chelsea streets. Major Case Squad detectives arrested Daniel Genis, 25, of Edgecliff, N.J., on Sat. Nov. 15 on Stanton St. and Bowery and charged him with holding up his victims at knifepoint between July 22 and August 22, police said.
One of the holdups was on July 24 at 9:30 p.m. at Greenwich and Carlisle Sts. On Aug. 21, a victim was robbed at 10:41 p.m. on Kenmare St. between Elizabeth St. and Bowery and on Aug. 22 a victim was held up in the afternoon on Stanton St. near Bowery, police said. Most robberies were in the East Village, four were in the Village and three were in Chelsea and the Gramercy neighborhoods
Anti-Asian assault reported
A victim, described as an Asian man, 40, riding on a northbound No. 4 train approaching the Wall St. station at 2:30 p.m. Sat. Nov. 15, was punched in the face by a stranger described as a black male, about 16, who made an ethnic remark before the attack, police said. About five or six other teenagers followed the victim off the train at the Wall St. station and punched and kicked him, police said. The case is under investigation as a hate crime.
Subway death
A southbound No. 1 train ran over and killed an unidentified man who was apparently lying on the track just south of the Canal St. station platform at about 5:45 p.m. Fri. Nov. 14, police said. There was no suspicion of criminal action, police said.
Bread and grass
A search warrant for Parisi’s Bakery and an apartment at 290 Elizabeth St. between E. Houston and Bleecker Sts. resulted in a raid at 11:45 a.m. Fri. Nov. 14 and confiscation of 74 pounds of marijuana, a shotgun and an unspecified quantity of “miscellaneous drugs,” police said. Frank Parisi, 48, of Staten Island, owner of the bakery, was arrested in connection with the raid, police said.
Soho dip
A woman walking on the east side of Mercer St. between Prince and Spring Sts on Wednesday afternoon Nov.12 felt her shoulder bag jostled at about 2 p.m. by a passerby who walked on quickly before she could see his face, police said. The pickpocket took her wallet with credit cars and identification.
B.P.C. theft
A resident of 375 South End Ave. in Battery Park City told police that when he returned from a business trip at 6 p.m. Wed. Nov.12 he found two watches missing from his safe. While away, he had phoned the building to ask the staff to close the windows in his apartment, said police, who are investigating the case.
