Miracle on Baxter St.; new computers

State Senator Thomas K. Duane and City Councilmember Alan Gerson visited P.S. 130 earlier this month to celebrate the installation of 43 computers and accompanying equipment purchased with $100,000 in city capital funds. Duane secured the funds for the new computers and equipment for the lab area, as well as for upgrading older computers for the school of 1,050 students. Gerson, whose district includes P.S. 130 in Chinatown, helped maintain the funds in the city budget for the project. According to Julie Bolcer, a Duane aide, it was a feat for Duane to secure the city funds. “It was an amazing task,” she said. “Senator Duane would like to describe it as a ‘Christmas miracle.’ ”
