Finest and Bravest gear up to help quake victims
On Jan. 14, at an Office of Emergency Management staging facility in Brooklyn, the Federal Emergency Management Agency activated New York Task Force 1 for deployment to Haiti. The specialized Urban Search and Rescue unit includes combined, active-duty Fire and Police Department officers, along with FEMA personnel. Above, unit members, awakened by 3 a.m. phone calls, gathered their equipment and prepared to depart for Haiti.
