‘The glue that binds communities is, as much as anything, the sharing of common stories and news and ideas; this exchange — social, personal, topical, intellectual — is an indispensible part of community life. For 75 years, The Villager has admirably fulfilled this role for the Greenwich Village community, and done so with integrity, public spiritedness and a manifest and undeniable affection for this neighborhood and its people. On behalf of one long-standing Village institution to another, I would like to offer the congratulations, good wishes and thanks of the N.Y.U. community to The Villager for listening so carefully to hear the Village’s stories and telling them to all with such a clear and resolute voice.’
