Where's the memorial for conquering polio? How about the one for the invention of vaccines? Advances in heart surgery, transplanting organs????? Why should there be a memorial for AIDS? Because so many gays live in The Village? Lots of people have died from a variety of causes, this is no more compelling than any other but many could have avoided catching the disease had they been prudent.

You're right when you say some activists were concerned about the unaccountability of the Trust.
The Board are political appointees. The CEO of the Park is hired by them…currently a former city official.
Diana Taylor is the present chair of the Trust and that city official Ms. Wils worked for Michael Bloomberg.
Now the Friends of Hudson River Park was an effective and independent advocate of the Park.
Able to lobby city and state officials in the best interests of the park, it's constituents, and even at times for the Trust itself. Currently Friends has entered into Partnership with the Trust to raise private funds. I for one wish them much success. My hope is that they remain independent advocates for the park.

Ms Glick is right.
Last year Ms Wils and the Trust and Park trumpeted that the park was nearly 80 percent complete.
Now it is 70 percent. So there is some scare tactics being used on the part of the Trust.
What no one is talking about is the privatization of this Park.
I for one miss the independent advocacy of the Friends of the Hudson River Park.
Almost one year ago this organization entered into partnership with the Trust to become it's fundraiser.
Now that still includes lobbying for state and city funds for completion of the park, but it was a public steward for the community as well. Working to ensure that all the public and private players adhered to the tenants of the Hudson River Park Act. I hope that as they succeed in raising the necessary private funds to operate and complete the Park, they not loose site of their "Feisty Roots" as they were described in the New York Times last June.
But that article also quotes Ms. Wils as saying that the Friends is "to do the bidding of the Trust".
And prophetically Ms. Glick, also in that same article hoped that "… other community organizations will have to fill the void and monitor what happens in the park".

NYU is very inconsiderate of its neighbors on Mercer (including when building between 3rd & 4th St's regeneration plant, destroying trees and occupying public land.The "Boomerang" and "Zipper" bldgs tower over their neighbors to the east. blocking sun and air. NYU may get caught in its own zipper as it seeks to commercialize the residential area and build a hotel (profit hungry???) Off with the tops of their buildings!

Glick is a clueless NIMBY. When will she retire or be replaced? She has been against ANY sort of revenue generation for HR Park, when the park legislation (which she endorsed) specified that the park had to be self sufficient from Day 1.

So either we get some economically productive uses (residential/retail/hotel/pick your poison) or the park falls into the river. Your choice.

As an experienced architect I believe the $100 million required renovation estimate is a complete fiction. This seems a scare tactic to force decisions upon our community. Pier 40 generates 40% of Hudson Park's revenue and the Trust needs $100 million to finish the Park. There you have it! Pier 40 is a potential cash cow the Trust to be leveraged to pay for the rest of the park. The Pier needs work, but I haven't see any indication the Pier is about to fall in the river. I believe they just want to get our kids and cars out so they can make more money off of the Pier.

A dedicated principal who started the school 13 years ago. She leaves her house at 6am in the morning and is the first one to arrive school. She stays to help with Mandarin teaching duirng after school program to help the kids. She knows every student by their first name. She takes every 8th grader to China every summer. She cares so much about the school and she succeeded, the US DOE awarded Blue Ribbon Award to the school. There are 3 disgruntled parents who did not see eye to eye with the principal who vowed to bring the school down by filing frivolous complaints about the school and open up endless investigations. By colluding with the OSI investigators, they succeeded. They filed many many complaints that were not true and opened up many files for investigations with allegations that are laugable! A good school now has been tainted and damaged by all these controversies, good students are leaving the school. A selfless woman's life has been destroyed.
